Peer Review (Blog Post #5)

I got the chance to review Learning Pod 8’s Interactive Learning Resource and my first thought was that this was a presentation fit for a Pro-D day workshop. At first glance, it looks so professional, the colour scheme is welcoming, the artwork is super adorable and these aspects continue throughout the entire presentation making it look very cohesive and inviting.

Next, you find the table of contents that has been linked to corresponding with each slide, a super thoughtful idea that makes this resource very user-friendly. Speaking of user-friendly, if you have any difficulties at all with reading, no problem because on each screen is a small button that reads you the text there. Additionally, they have included the text on each slide in the notes in order to encourage English language learners to copy and paste the text into a translator and read in their preferred language. Right from the beginning the time and effort that this group put into making this resource accessible for all is very obvious.

After a detailed rationale, you find the first interactive learning resource: a brain breaks plan that you can take back to your own classroom. I liked the idea of this because as a teacher myself I appreciate completing activities that will benefit my students. You have the option to download in PDF or Microsoft Word. I hit a small snag here because when I went to download it as a PDF I could not type in it so I hit open with Google Docs when I did so it threw the format of the document off. I don’t have Microsoft Word on my home computer so one piece of feedback I can offer is to create a third option to fill it out digitally on Google Docs with proper formatting.

The information about brain breaks in this resource is very comprehensive and for new teachers would be incredibly valuable. It is easy to understand and thoroughly explains all options for brain breaks that I could think of. It was very thoughtful to include videos and resources such as mindful colouring on Teachers Pay Teachers that were linked into the document and could be easily used in the classroom.

Overall aside from the small technical difficulty I had with the downloading of the interactive resource plan I can find basically no faults with this resource and think it is outstanding. Well done Learning Pod 8!
